Safety being a major issue at airports and in particular the grip of landing strips, AERCO carried out from February 26 to March 10, 2022, slip control and gum removal works on the runways of Maya-Maya airports in Brazzaville and Antonio Agostinho NETO in Pointe-Noire.
Degumming is a maintenance operation of aeronautical pavements which consists in removing the rubber left by aircraft on landing. Thanks to very specialized equipment from Europe, the water spray treatment has therefore made it possible to remove the gum deposits and ensure a roughness that complies with the standards in force.
In order not to disrupt activity, the gumming at the two airports took place at night.
The maintenance began and ended with the measurement of the CFL (Coefficient of Longitudinal Friction) in order to measure the grip before and after the degumming.
These very expensive maintenance operations carried out every two or three years are part of the ICAO certification of the two airports.
